The new gym for the Claret school posed particular problems due to its location on an problem slope .

The nature of the sport calls for ample well lit spaces, with very high ceilings. The sheer bulk of the structure would tend to exacerbate the problems of loading the slope and blocking the view.

The only available site was in front of the cafeteria and on a steep slope rendered unstable by the runoff from frequent severe tropical storms.

The answer was to design a see-through lightweight glass facade; and rest a thin slab on pilings and design the storm runoff channels in close harmony with the slopes.
